Mona Peterson, art teacher
I have been teaching art for a long time in various different schools in the area. This is the perfect semi retirement job for me!
I live in Holdrege with my husband, Roger. We have three grown children with families and seven grand children under the age of eight.
My philosophy on teaching art: I believe it should be an enjoyable experience with learning and creativity along the way. We talk about the basics, like the art elements, the art principles and how they are incorporated into different mediums. One thing that I feel is very important is introducing the students to different artists and art styles. Ask your student how they remember certain artists that we talk about.
Another thing that I stress is creativity and problem-solving. These are skills that can be used outside the art classroom and in life.
I would love to have parents or grandparents visit our class to see exactly what goes on. Something new this year (2024) is the family art night in January.
Starla Wear, Music Teacher
I started teaching at All Saints the fall of 2021, but I have taught music for 30+ years. I enjoy it very much here because the students and staff are great!
In our music classes at All Saints I introduce students to and practice simple music concepts, such as beat, rhythm and pitch, as well as teach them how to read musical notes and symbols. We practice these concepts through a variety of ways in order to try to prepare students to be a part of different musical groups at school, church, and in the community, too.
I like to expose them to different kinds of music and we also strive to give them positive music experiences and performances. Music is a gift from God and we do our best when performing to show our gratitude for this gift.
Ashley Popple, Physical Education teacher
I was born and raised in Holdrege, Nebraska so I have always had a passion for this amazing town. I even grew up with and met my husband, Casey Popple here. After graduating high school, Casey and I moved to Lincoln to pursue college degrees. We always knew we wanted to end up in Holdrege, so we moved home after college to get married and start our family! We now have three beautiful children, Grayson, Layla, and Oakley!
Before becoming a substitute teacher, I received my associates degree in Medical Assisting and worked in the medical field for 13 years. After my husband took over his family’s concrete business in 2008, Popple Construction, I became a work from home mom running the business books. I have always had a passion for children, so during this time working from home I decided to pursue substitute teaching. I obtained my substitute certification through the University of Nebraska at Kearney. I then started working for Holdrege Public Schools and was hired on the lead PE in 2021.
I have a passion for health and wellness. So I love getting to share that while helping kids find joy in the benefits of physical activity!
When I’m not in the classroom, you can find me enjoying quality time with my family or running and working out!
